Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) Small Groups

Pain Reprocessing Therapy Groups are for anyone struggling with chronic pain or other unpleasant chronic symptoms who wants to learn clinically proven strategies to overcome their symptoms in a supportive and motivational small group environment.

In between sessions, participants will have 6 weeks of free access to an app designed by neuroscientists with exercises to support our work in session, and they will have access to a private online chat space with myself and other group members where they can support each other.

My mission is to help every client rewire the control center of their body – their brain – for complete pain recovery.

Each session will focus on:

exploring the physical and emotional roots of participants’ chronic pain – how the pain started and why it persists; tackling anger, fear, guilt, shame, and feelings of fault

neuroscience education on exactly how chronic pain is governed by brain and behavioral patterns, and how research has proven we can retrain our brains out of pain

specific, proven techniques participants can implement immediately to break their own cycles of fear and chronic pain, and live happier, more full lives

By the end of the eight weeks, most participants:

experience significant or complete pain reduction, and know how to continue the work to keep getting better

report extremely decreased daily fear and anxiety around their symptoms

are empowered to stop future pain flare-ups in their tracks and keep future ones from materializing

describe a much happier and more positive outlook on their lives in general

are excited about the future and what is possible for them now that pain does not control their lives and moods

FAQ

How are groups different from individual sessions?

Both programs use scientifically proven techniques and formats and are highly effective at resolving chronic pain. In private PRT, you are the focus, and each session is individually designed to give you the specific help you need to understand why you are in pain and ultimately recover from it. In group sessions, you will have some time to share your experiences and sometimes the focus will be on you, but you will also learn from listening to and following along with other people’s stories and journeys. Group sessions follow a generally prescribed format as to the topic of each week’s session, while private sessions are more fluid, according to the needs of the individual client. My group program consists of three more meetings than my private one, as groups move a bit slower. The price point of group sessions is lower than for privates.

What is the success rate with Pain Reprocessing Therapy?

This is the most frequently asked question. Pain Reprocessing Therapy has been proven effective at curing chronic pain; Most of my clients have full resolution of their chronic pain symptoms, and of many other unpleasant chronic symptoms they did not realize were part of the story; And, this program is designed to continue to enrich your life, and keep your pain from becoming chronic again, for the rest of your life. I cannot offer guarantees as to how fast you will experience pain relief, or how complete it will be – because I can’t control YOU. But, I can promise that if you make a commitment to “doing the work,” and making the necessary changes to how you think about and use your mind and body, you will feel significantly better. This program can absolutely show you why you are in pain, and give you a clear roadmap to get out of pain. You will begin to feel the effects of it immediately. The rest is up to you.

What if I don’t get completely out of pain after one of your Pain Reprocessing Therapy programs?

The skills and behavior/thought modification strategies you learn as part of my PRT programs will be with you for the rest of your life. Everyone who moves through one of my PRT programs continues to progress towards living chronic pain-free, hopefully forever. But, healing isn’t linear, and most people experience temporary setbacks. These can be terrifying, and can quickly bring up all the old patterns that got you into chronic pain. We will talk about facing these setbacks as part of the main programs, and discuss strategies to avoid spiraling into old, bad patterns. But, if you need more support, you will have the option of scheduling additional private sessions with me to check in. Also, at the end of group sessions, participants will have the option to stay in touch for support purposes. Additionally, I can supply you with a nearly endless supply of books, articles, research, podcasts, apps, etc to support you as you continue the work of healing your brain and body.

How does Pain Reprocessing Therapy with children differ from that with adults?

It doesn’t! There is nothing we talk about with respect to the brain and nervous system functioning in response to stress and other triggers that children cannot understand. In fact, I find children often pick up these concepts much more readily than adults, and have faster results; Their minds are more open and they have fewer bad habits and false dogma to unlearn, and they haven’t experienced as much overall stress as it is possible for an adult too. Additionally, several enterprising neuroscientists have developed resources specifically formulated for communicating these concepts to children.
